Housekeeping question!

This is completely embarrassing, but here goes:

I've almost never had an oven that wasn't self-cleaning. If I did, it was in one of my early apartments and I didn't stay long enough in the place to bother cleaning it.

So--what's the best (and greenest) way to go about it? I would like to avoid using the super-nasty chemical stuff as much as possible. Any tips?

Best wedding bouquet EVER!

I saw this on the website of Le Pommier d'argent (The Silver Apple Tree), a local organic farm/gourmet restaurant. The head farmer and chef is from France; he raises chickens and goats (among other things) on site. It's very pretty, the food is amazing and it's become a popular spot for small weddings, like this one they featured on their website.

Hand-tied goat bouquet--it's what all the fashionable brides will be carrying this season!

Underdog club

"Old." "Ugly" And sometimes just plain "Unpopular".
They're the shelter dogs nobody wants. Week after week, month after month, they sit and wait for someone to take them home. They watch as their younger, cuter, smaller, more outgoing neighbours find people to love them. They wag their tails and look out their cages and try to say "please choose me, I may not be pretty, or a puppy, but I promise I'll be a good dog." But other pooches always seem to steal their spotlight.
Until now. In an amazing stroke of creative genius, a collective of Montreal artists and dog lovers has come up with the Underdog Club. It's a way to give special dogs a better chance of finding their forever home.
The Club is an art gallery/adoption shelter. Expressive black and white portraits of dogs, taken by prominent photographers, line the walls. You can buy the gorgeous, framed pictures. But you can also leave with the model, because all of the photographed dogs are there on site, ready to go.
I love these people. I have to stop looking at the dogs on their website because I am going to end up driving to Montreal and getting several.

Fuckity FUCK. I just tried to post and upload a video. I got the following existential error message from Vox:

LT was describing how HRH Tortie has been curling up under the covers now that the weather has turned chilly. Which got me thinking: my office is pretty cold. I was going to bring in a little heater, but discovered they are "unauthorized" because of a potential fire hazard. So why not have a nice, warm, furry, cuddly animal to sit in my lap instead? Preferably one of these:

To my delight, they've been re-airing this hilarious Canadian ad from almost 20 years ago:

Coffee Crisp commercial (early 1990s)

For the American peeps, Coffee Crisp is a delicious Canadian chocolate bar with coffee-flavoured cream and crispy wafers. It's one of those things Canadian ex-pats always pine for, along with ketchup-flavoured chips.

Apparently the two actors playing the little old Jewish ladies have since passed away. They were adorable in this ad and they still make me LOL!

I got a feeling...

This amazing lip-dub video was made a couple of months ago during Frosh week by Communications students at the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM). They recorded it in a single take and got almost every student in the program involved. It's gone viral on YouTube, and deservedly so! So much fun! I wish we'd been able to do this kind of thing back when I was in university.

LIPDUB - I Gotta Feeling (Comm-UQAM 2009)

This campus is right in the heart of downtown Montreal--I didn't go to this school, but I know the layout very well. This building is called the Judith Jasmin Pavillion; it's named after a pioneering female Quebec broadcaster It's a hideous building--another 1970s public architecture monstrosity--but you can get a little taste of that special Montreal flava--especially with all the cute guys and girls in the video!

A Caturday Riddle

My apartment has all hardwood floors, even the bathroom (except for the slate tile in the kitchen).

There is one carpet in the entire place: a very small (doormat size) but very nice oriental rug i keep in front of the bathroom sink because it is so thick, warm and soft on my bare feet when I'm brushing my teeth..

Guess where the cat has elected to barf?
