This morning, I sat on a horse for the first time in 3 months--w00t!
I got the all-clear this week from my doc to start riding again, S-L-O-W-L-Y. So this morning, I saddled up Smokey, aged 20-something, the barn's most senior citizen, who is a reliably sedate babysitter and can perform on autopilot if needed. We just walked around and around the arena for a good 20 minutes.
The good news: no pain at all in the knee! Even mounting and dismounting! The bad news: my left leg feels like an overcooked noodle. There was no squeeze happening in there at all, so I couldn't steer off that side. Even my non-injured leg was feeling really weak. I have lost my pumpitude! Also both hips and hamstrings are extremely tight. I worked on stretching them out in the saddle, which was painful, but in a good way. I'm feeling quite sore now, but I'm going to go back and do another 15-20 minutes tomorrow.
I watched Beau get ridden in a rather challenging jumping lesson and he was a *star*. My boy is doing so well, I can't wait to ride him again.
This evening, Mr.BrownA and I met up with Bobavid to see Persepolis. I really enjoyed it. I liked the simplicity of the animation, and the honesty of the storytelling.
At one point, there's a scene where Marjane, the narrator, arrives at Orly Airport in Paris. The sign on the building says, in big red capital letters, ORLY. Bobavid starts snickering.
"What?", I whisper.
"It says, 'O RLY'"
I was cracking up.
During the last 20 minutes or so, some moron kept periodically knocking on the theatre doors. WTF? Was he expecting somebody to say, "come in'?
After the movie, Mr.BrownA and I went to stuff our faces on Ethiopian food. Bobavid declined to join us, even after I explained that Ethiopian food is served on a giant PANCAKE, and you use more pieces of rolled-up PANCAKE to scoop up the food and sauce and eat it with your hands. He just doesn't know what he's missing!
